About the Book

T

his is my debut novel novel. Bring a Warm Coat is inspired by true events in the South Pacific during the Second World War.  I picked up a copy of False Flags by Stephen Robinson from a friends coffee table. It was really interesting. However it was all about the boats and I could find little to no human interest stories connected to the events. So based on this and the research I did, I wrote a story in the hopes of telling at least one story of a POW at sea.

Ruth had a small family, lived in a small village her entire life, and experienced a small amount of life. She had friends and a roof over her head, and she was content with her job as a teacher. She knew that she ought to be grateful. She knew she was safe. However, she recognised her want for more.

All she could do while German bombs were falling on London was listen to the evacuees’ stories and daydream of a more interesting existence.

The only source of excitement in her quiet country lifestyle was Helen, a friend who was brasher and more audacious. Ruth was envious of Helen and wished to be more like her. Ruth’s late grandmother was more like Helen and she had always pushed Ruth to be a little more spirited.

Will Ruth follow her parents down south when the battle becomes a bit too close for comfort? Or will she summon some of her late grandmother’s energy and join Helen on her more daring offer of adventure?

About the Book
#bringawarmcoat
am obsessed! I absolutely loved this book!!! I found it riveting from the get go. The author has a beautiful and clever way of writing that really reminded me of how I felt when I first read Harry Potter, which is a huge compliment. I could not put it down. It has wonderful characters and an excellent plot with fashion, friendship, drama, love and tragedy. I can’t recommend Bring a warm coat enough! I look forward to reading what this talented author from my home country NZ produces next."

"I really enjoyed this book, its a book with soul that's been well researched. I was impressed with how M.E wrote from a POV perspective in WW2. They painted a very captivating and clear picture of the events that unfolded in 1940. If you are a history fanatic like myself, you will thoroughly appreciate this literacy masterpiece."
